Goodbye Juneau, It Was Fantastic

We got back to the ship
45 minutes late after our tour
to see the whales in Auke Bay.

It seemed like the ship personnel were
keeping an eye out for us.
They scan your cruise card when
leaving and returning to the ship
so they know exactly who is on board
and which tour group is late.
We were held up not only by that
construction traffic, but I think we were
a bit late leaving the humpbacks as well.

Dock workers removing the safety
netting from under the gangway.

One last look at the top of the
Mt. Roberts tramway.

It was beyond time that we were supposed
to leave.  I was waiting to see someone
cast off our lines.

Still waiting, but in the meantime
the sunset was reflecting gorgeous color
onto the clouds.

Ah, they were finally removing the gangway.

I really enjoyed watching all the dock
work in preparation for our arrivals
and departures.

Loved the sunset colors reflected on the water.

Still waiting... and we never did see the sailaway.
The lines were still anchoring us to the pier
when we decided to call it a night.
It was getting too late and the next day
we had an early morning train to catch.

A sweet ending to a fabulous day.

  1. Glad you got to see the whales. There was an article on the internet about how the boat tours that are watching the whales are causing the whales to stress out and that it is not good for the invironment and some outer crazy thing. I don't know there seems to always be something left finds wrong. Pictures were great today...love the sunset.

    1. Thanks. The whales were very active and our boat captain was extremely careful and kept a respectable distance. The whales swam under us while the engines were off.

    1. Juneau was my favorite as well. Next time. (Hopefully) we will be able to visit Mendenhall.
