It was time to go see some whales.
Our tour bus ready to take
us to Auke Bay.
Glacier ahead.
This is about as close as we were
going to get to Mendenhall Glacier.
Scenery along the way.
Our catamaran.
Looked like they were getting it ready
for a paint job.
Inside.
Room for about 150 passengers.
We were on tour with just 40 people.
There were bench seats,
with binoculars to use,
and souvenir route guides
for everyone.
Our boat captain,
took us past the area where other
tour boats were viewing the Humpbacks.
He was taking us to see the Orcas first
thinking that the number of other boats
would be diminished when we returned
for our visit with the Humpbacks.
Complimentary appetizers,
beverages and desserts were available.
A no host bar serving
wine, beer, and sodas was also available
for anyone that wanted something besides
water and ice tea.
Artichoke dip with pita bread,
humus, vegetables, salmon dip,
berries, candied nuts, shrimp,
cheese and some type of
thin sliced deli meat.
There was a buffet
table full of
appetizers and desserts
set up in the center of the bench seats
inside the catamaran.
First sighting of Orcas.
There goes our guaranteed refund
if we didn't see any whales.
They've never had to refund any money.
Oh how I wish the next photo
would have come out clear.
Would have been something huh?
Glacier on the right in the next photo.
Mendenhall Glacier.
This was as close as we got to them.
Time to head back to see the Humpbacks.
It was warm out there
with just a light sweater needed.
Juneau was close to breaking a high
temperature record while we were there.
We were lucky with beautiful weather,
Orca whale sightings, and a gorgeous location.
