Sometimes, you just have
to say no to spring time chores.
They'll get done eventually.
Meanwhile the lake is calling
and tugging at our will power.
Our first weekend home
we decided to skip chores
and go spend some time on the lake.
We've been out just three times
this month. Twice on that first weekend.
~~~
That's not nearly enough fishing time,
especially now that the fish are biting.
But the work at home is a higher
priority for now.
This weekend we spent time
spraying poison oak on the property,
digging garden beds, going to the dump,
bringing back a load of compost,
cooking for the potluck at Seniors,
and overall enjoying our time
together. Even if it did mean chores.
The oak trees are showing off their
fresh new green leaves. The lake has reached
it's peak high point for the year.
It's 23 feet from the crest
and is already heading back down.
I wish it had gotten full,
but it's not to be
for this was the driest winter on record.
We were lucky that last year
the lake was full
within three feet of the crest.
Liberty absolutely loved her
freedom to run with abandon
along the rocky shoreline.
She was brave enough to venture
into the chilly water after a stick.
Well, actually bravery had nothing
to do with it. She jumped right in.
The extra loop on her car
harness is helpful to grab if needed.
She's still a puppy with a mind
of her own, but actually she
is getting better behaved.
Thank Goodness.
I spent most of yesterday repairing
and replacing parts of
the garden's drip irrigation system.
Thanks to Liberty.
This last photo is from our
third time out on the lake.
It's nice that there's
more daylight in the evening,
and now we can head to the lake
after work and dinner.
Sometimes we'll plan ahead
and take dinner to the lake
as soon as Rick gets home from work.
When it get's hotter in the summer months
we don't come off the lake until the sun
has set behind the mountains.
It's much more comfortable without
that intense sun bearing down on you.
For our Mexican themed potluck
Saturday, I made a new (to me) recipe
for Annette's Enchiladas.
It's a layered green chili, chicken
and Monterey jack cheese
enchilada casserole,
rather than a rolled enchilada.
It tasted good, but the
white corn tortillas I used
were a bit too soft for the recipe,
and the color blended in too much
with the chicken, cheese, and sauce.
Next time, if I use the recipe
again, I'll use yellow corn tortillas.
If you're interested ~
I found the recipe and tutorial here.
