It took a bit of grit and determination for the Forest Service
and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crew
to build this sturdy 160 foot suspension bridge in September 1933.
Sims Bridge was the first major construction project
completed by any of the CCC programs throughout the United States.
It’s initial purpose was to provide access to the east side of the Sacrament River, for fire protection.
Looking south from the bridge.
After 41 years of continuous use (1933 to 1974)
Sims Bridge is closed to auto traffic, but it’s still safe to walk on.
Looking north at the replacement bridge.
Look closer, that's snow covered Mt. Shasta hiding in the clouds.
This is a prime fly fishing spot, when the water is not quite so high.
Right now it’s flowing fast with snow melt into our own Shasta Lake.
“The charm of fly-fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive,
but attainable ~ a perpetual series of occasions for hope.” ~~ anonymous
as quoted in the book I'm currently reading.
Time is a River, by Mary Alice Monroe
It’s a cool spot for a summer picnic,
and a refreshing cold dip for your toes, but not now. That water is cold!

You captured the beauty again!
