The vegetable garden blossoms
are just a pretty to me as ornamental plants.
This one is an eggplant.
Next up, a giant butternut winter squash.
Plus there's this tiny little cucumber flower.
Phylis's morning glories have just started blooming on the garden
arbor. They were planted late in the season. They're gorgeous little frilly
skirts, putting on their morning can can show. Upside down no less. (smile)
Phylis's pumpkin patch with one of her cute new scarecrows on the job.
The pumpkins are turning a fabulous orange.
Gotta get over there early this morning.
It's going to be a scorcher.
Yesterday, it was 109 degrees at 4PM.
It got to 110 degrees breaking the record for the day.
Last summer we reached 117 degrees.
It's so much better around 100 degrees.
Looking forward to fall? Ya think...

Beautiful! I have always wanted to grow my own pumpkins.. yours are SUPER ORANGE, and awesome!
ReplyDeleteSilly me, those aren't YOUR pumpkins.. but their lovely anyway... HA! Left my brain on the pillow again this morning. (insert eye roll here)
ReplyDeleteWow, hot!!! It is so beautiful here - it has been since Monday. I am not rubbing it but I have to admit it is nice to know Iowa weather is better than Calif. once in awhile. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beauty in those pictures!
Phylis would say they are "our" pumpkins over there at the family garden. She started those from seeds in her dining room and nurtured them long past the time they should have been planted. It rained and rained this spring delaying the planting time, so they were quite leggy by the time she got them in the ground. Yes those are Phylis's babies. But she shares! We both dug the beds, planted seeds, nurtured, watered, weeded, harvested, and everything else needed in the garden. The garden is at her house though, cause she has flat land. It's just a couple miles away.
ReplyDeleteAmy, Yes I love how orange the pumpkins are getting.
ReplyDeleteAnita, the weather has been fairly mild all summer. We're hot, but back to normal today. It's 100 degrees out there now at 3PM.
