This was our first walk out on the pier,
before we met up with the kids
and walked it again later.
The river otters caught our attention.
They were scarfing up salmon scraps
as fast as they could.
The fisherman was cutting filets from the
salmon for their customers.
The scraps were thrown overboard
much to the delight of the seagulls
and the river otters.
We learned later at the Trinidad museum,
that these were river otters, not sea otters.
Just because they're in the sea doesn't mean
that they're sea otters.
Um, yeah rather feeling foolish as we
darn well know
what those other sea otters
look like.
We have seen them
floating on their backs and cracking
sea critters open for their dinner.
Of course,
that was further south down the coast
like in Monterey Bay where the
water is much warmer...
Oh well,
imagine the cry of the seagulls
as they fight over the small scraps,
and try to steal a bit from the river otters.
The buoy bell is ringing out in the harbor.
There's a light breeze
with a promise of clearing skies.
The salty sea are is cool,
and even fresher than you thought
it could be because of the storm
that had just blown through.
It was an absolutely beautiful morning.

Beautiful pictures Pat. Very interesting post. Some of those scraps look pretty big. I just love that environment. I miss the water and the sea and the smells and all that stuff. Hope you're having a good weekend.
