The Other Side of the Dam

Sunday, we drove up to the dam
to get photos of the other side.

Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and Mt. Shasta.

View of the dam from inside the visitor's center.

The hillside on the western side of the dam
was burned during the "Motion Fire" in
June of 2008.  That was a very scary summer.

We were out on the lake during
that fire and took photos that
captured the trees exploding
in the fire/smoke.

We're expecting another bad year
for fires because of the drought.
It was 107 degrees yesterday
and today is the fourth day in a row
with temps above 100 degrees.

The houseboats are busy on the lake.
This one is from Silverthorn Resort.

There was a nice cool breeze
 coming off the lake.
 Away from the lake though,
it was very hot!

I didn't expect  to see
this couple out walking goats
down the trail.
Currently the lake is down 90.21 feet
from the crest.
How low will it go...?

  1. I was to the Hoover Dam years ago when visiting my parents in Las Vagas...that was quite a awesome thing to see. Shasta Dam must be the same. I don't know, those fires sure can be scary. Hope not of that comes close to you home...that sure is scary...and what do you grab at the last moment and I am sure there will be something you forgot. Beautiful pictures of Shasta lake and dam but then you always take the most lovely of pictures.

  2. Beautiful pictures! I agree about those fires! What did you do for your birthday? I forgot to send you a card :( I am finding it okay to be 60 - after a little of adjustments. It is so hard to believe we are 60. I can close my eyes and still see us in high school...a lot of changes since then!!!! Changes that I am so thankful for.
