A few weeks ago (May 16th), we took two of
our grand kids out on the lake for the day.
Grandpa bought them ice creams at the
marina store after getting
gasoline at the marina pumps.
Gasoline there was $5.31 a gallon.
We only bought half a tank... $53.
Here's some facts about Shasta Lake.
Someone asked me how deep
the lake is when it's full.
I didn't know, but now we do.
Shasta Lake and Shasta Dam facts
Shoreline: 365 miles
Length of Shasta Lake: 35 miles
Surface area: 30,000 acres
Storage capacity: 4,550,000 acre feet
Greatest Depth: 517 feet
Total Drainage Area: 4,110,000 acres
Average Annual Flow: 6.2 million acre feet
Shasta Dam Height: 602 feet
Shasta Dam spillway elevation above sea level: 1,067 feet
Granddaughter Kate enjoying the water.
At the time it was still too cold to swim in.
Kate and Conner throwing rock,
sticks, and anything they could find
into the lake.
Smashing rocks.
Another treasure to throw into the lake.
At the time, the lake was near 80 feet from
the crest. Now it's 88.94 feet down.
When the lake is full, there's 365 miles of
shoreline.
Now that the lake is down, there's only
265 miles of shoreline.
The lake will keep loosing water for
the rest of the summer as the water is
needed for irrigation and cities further south.
We need to get back out there.
We haven't gone out since we took the kids
back in May.
The longer we wait,
the further the walk is from the parking
area down to the marina...
It's supposed to hit the 100 degree
mark this weekend.
Oh no!

The water level is probably a bit higher now that all that stuff has been thrown in to it :)...We hit 90 a week or so ago..mid 60's this past week with much needed rain but back up again this coming week..Very strange..Hope you are well..
ReplyDeleteWe vacationed on and around Shasta Lake when our children were small and loved every minute of it. It is a trip we need to plan with our older grandkids now for sure. We hit the upper 90's yesterday for the first time in a while. Uggh! Our city is under two days a week sprinkler watering and I am watering my flowers as needed by hand. If the weather continues I will have to give up on flower pots soon enough which breaks my heart not only because of their beauty but my pocket book. lol Is is too soon to wish for fall?
ReplyDeleteYou are truly blessed my friend with such cut grandkids. What fun.
