This is Our January

This is Winter?

My daffodils started blooming
Saturday January 25th.
Way too soon.

I also found some violets blooming
almost hidden among the fallen oak tree leaves.

We spent the weekend
cleaning out flowerbeds,
trimming last year's growth
and raking away the fallen leaves.
There's new growth showing on
several of the perennials.

The scent of herbs and warming soil
filled the air as I worked around the beds
trimming oregano, garlic chives and anise hyssop.
I also trimmed the lemon verbena
that still had last years green growth on
the branches.
It smelled wonderful.
It smelled like Spring,
and with an 80 degree temperature
it felt like Spring as well.

Rick pruned our plum trees
that were already starting to bud out.

    We really could use some
winter weather here though...
Come back rainy season,
we miss you.
